Delverium Biomes and Dungeon Layers: Where to Look Next
Surface regions and dungeon layers serve different tasks. Use Plains for the developer-recommended calmer base, match fishing to the water type, and search the ore's recorded dungeon layer. Your lore markers and discovered shrines are better route guides than a supposed universal coordinate map.

Choose a surface destination
| Task | Region clue | What to check there |
|---|---|---|
| Calmer settlement | Plains near a Journey Shrine | Room validity and current torch coverage. |
| Forest travel/base | Woodlands | v0.1.0.3's different torch modifier; ordinary encounters still differ from summons. |
| Eel or Catfish fishing | Swamp water | Rod, bait and target catch pool. |
| Squid or Rusty Trident fishing | Ocean water | Use the ocean pool rather than an inland pond. |
| Cows | Northern islands, per September developer advice | Choose capture or hide collection before transporting an animal. |
Match mining to the recorded layer
| Resource/goal | Recorded area |
|---|---|
| Copper Ore | Common first-level dungeon nodes. |
| Iron/Liche route | The deeper stone-mine layer described in the developer/player answer. |
| Silver Ore | Sometimes in second-level dungeons. |
| Gold Ore | Underworld and Fault Layers, from Gold/Tech Gold Nodes. |
These are task-specific source descriptions, not a complete formal layer-number system. A biome name, a dungeon depth and a boss-locked route are related but are not interchangeable labels.
When exploration stops at a locked route
Follow the lore-marker route rather than looking for an unrelated ore to bypass a boss condition. The October developer answer links the first progression boss to onward stairs and a swamp shrine route. The central entrance and three-level clue apply to that stage, not every later encounter.
Make the return trip useful
Activate shrines you discover and prepare supplies before descending again. A discovered deeper shrine can shorten repeated mining trips. For farming enemies, remember that torch suppression affects nearby spawn attempts; lighting for safer travel and lighting for deliberate spawn farming are different plans.
