Delverium Death Penalty: Money, Items and Permadeath Choices
The community character-creation reference lists three death-penalty choices: Drop all Money, Drop all Items and Permadeath. This is a character option, while Casual/Normal/Hard and Horde Mode belong to world creation. Choose the consequence you want before starting the run rather than assuming an easier world removes it.

Compare the three labels
| Character choice | Risk to consider | Suitable decision question |
|---|---|---|
| Drop all Money | The option names carried money as the death cost. | Would you rather put currency at risk while learning combat? |
| Drop all Items | The option names carried items as the death cost. | Are you willing to put an expedition's equipment and supplies at risk? |
| Permadeath | A permanent character-loss mode, rather than an ordinary recovery run. | Do you want that consequence for this character? |
These are the source's creation labels. It does not document every dropped-container rule, despawn timer, recovery distance or interaction with a party's other characters. Do not base a recovery plan on an invented grace period.
Set the option in the right place
- During character creation, inspect the death-penalty field and choose the intended label.
- Then choose the world settings separately. The world's difficulty and Horde option concern encounters, not the same character field.
- Before a long cave trip, leave surplus supplies at your base and prepare a return route appropriate to your chosen risk.
- Use a valid shelter and bed for spawn planning; a world containing a house outline does not establish that you set its spawn point.
For an existing character
The cited reference describes creation choices, not a supported in-game penalty switch for an existing character. The community world-file editor guide concerns a world copy and does not prove that it edits this character field. Avoid overwriting saves to try to change a different setting.
Mana after death is a separate version issue
Official v0.1.0.3 fixed mana not resetting after sleeping or respawning. If that is your symptom, check the game version before treating it as a death-penalty rule. For surviving the next attempt, compare food, mana supplies and your armour.
