Where to Find and Smelt Iron Ore in Delverium

The community Iron Ore entry places iron nodes commonly in second-level dungeons and lists four Iron Ore for one Iron Bar at a Furnace. A September player discussion describes this layer as the stone mines below the first dirt-mine layer, and the developer confirms that layer in the Liche answer.

Check which layer you are exploring

Do not count the surface as the first mine. The linked player distinguishes the surface, the first dirt-mine layer and the deeper stone-mine layer. The wiki's second-level dungeon description gives you a more useful search target than repeatedly checking only the starting cave.

1. Reach the deeper dungeon layer through the progression routes you have discovered. If you are stuck before it, check the progression guide.
2. Look for iron nodes and mine with a pick. Check the resulting inventory item so you do not confuse a stone node or another ore with iron.
3. Keep at least four ore for the wiki's reference Iron Bar recipe, then stand near a furnace and inspect Iron Bar in the crafting menu.
4. Craft a bar, or inspect whether the item you actually want can craft the bar as a nested ingredient. The crafting wiki describes that ingredient system.

Ore and bars solve different recipe problems

Finding ore does not guarantee that a finished equipment recipe is available. Check the ingredient icon and required station. If a furnace seems unresponsive, use the workstation checklist rather than expecting the placed furnace to open a separate smelting interface.

If you still find no iron

Confirm the layer first and search more of it. The sources describe a common location, not guaranteed coordinates in a procedural world. They also do not name a required pick tier; do not interpret a missing node as proof you need an undocumented tool upgrade.
