Reduce Enemy Spawns Around Your Delverium Base
For a less disturbed main settlement, the developer recommends plains near a Journey Shrine and torches in the plains. Torches reduce spawning there; they do not turn the base into a guaranteed safe zone. Goblin Captains can summon more goblins, so address those enemies when repeated waves are the problem.

Choose the calmer main-base setting
- Check whether your main settlement is in a forest or the plains.
- If constant forest encounters are the problem, consider establishing the main settlement in plains near a Journey Shrine, following the developer's recommendation.
- Place torches in the plains area to reduce enemy spawning there.
- When Goblin Captains appear, deal with them to stop them summoning more goblins around you.
Why the goblins keep coming
The developer explains that Captains summon more goblins, while accumulated fighting can escalate to a Goblin King. Repeated waves are therefore a different issue from a single ordinary spawn. Addressing a Captain helps with its summons; repeatedly fighting every wave is not a guaranteed way to make escalation disappear.
What torches can and cannot promise
The cited Early Access advice supports reduced spawning in the plains. A stronger forest effect was discussed as planned work, not an already-delivered guarantee. This page does not apply an old demo radius or reduction percentage to the current build.
Do not expect a fully spawn-proof safe zone, or assume the same effect in forests and underground. If you want necromancers rather than fewer enemies, use the separate skeleton escalation guide for that task.
Compare the disturbance after changing your setup
The useful result is less disruption at your settlement. If enemies still arrive, note the biome, nearby torches and whether Captains are summoning them before reporting the setup. That distinguishes ordinary spawning from an enemy already extending the fight.
