Delverium Tools Guide: Axe, Pick, Hammer, Hoe, Net and Watering Can
Use an axe for trees, a pick for rocks/ore, a hammer for placed items and a hoe for soil or immature crops. Fishing tools need bait, the Small Net captures animals, and the Watering Can speeds crop growth. Tool resource damage and enemy attack damage are different values.

Pick the tool for the target
| Tool | Main job | Common wrong assumption |
|---|---|---|
| Axe | Chop plants and supported tree tiers. | Every early axe can chop Hardwood or Deadwood. |
| Pick | Mine rocks, ore and underground blocks. | A high combat-damage weapon replaces a mining tier. |
| Hammer | Remove placed walls, floors, doors and furniture. | Removing furniture requires a mining pick. |
| Hoe | Till/untill soil and remove immature crops. | Forcing a hoe harvest preserves an immature plant. |
| Fishing Pole/Rod | Catch fish and other water loot with bait. | The tool alone defines the complete fishing power. |
| Small Net | Catch animals and critters. | Capture immediately produces animal materials. |
| Watering Can | Speed crop growth. | The can must be refilled or crops cannot grow without it. |
Check resource access before raw speed
The tool table describes starting picks as Basic, Iron Pick as Standard, Silver/Jeweled picks as Enhanced, and Obsidian/Gold/Heavy Refactor as Superior. It specifically says the Wood Pick can mine dirt, stone and copper. It does not map every ore to its minimum tier, so do not turn these labels into an unsupported complete mining-unlock chart.
Axes have a clearer resource table: early Wood/Stone/Copper axes are Softwood, Iron reaches Hardwood, and Silver and several later axes list Deadwood. Use the axe comparison for that upgrade decision.
When the tool seems ineffective
- Select the actual tool on the hotbar.
- Use the configured tool action and check the target type.
- Inspect resource tier if the action works but the object does not break.
- Check the item's resource damage and speed separately from its attack damage.
Spend materials on the task you need
A higher hammer improves unplacement speed, while a higher axe can change tree access. Upgrade for the next obstacle rather than treating every high-tier tool as the best combat weapon. For fights, use the combat resource guide instead.
