Delverium Blacksmith Stuck Across Water: Room Teleport Checks
For a rescued Blacksmith stranded across a river, the September 21 developer answer says an assigned mainland room can bring the NPC home by teleport. In the developer’s reported test, it retried around every 30 seconds and would not teleport while a player was within 22 tiles of the NPC or target room. This is dated advice, not our own test.
September 21, 2026 developer-reported test: room teleport, about 30-second retry and 22-tile player exclusion
Prepare a destination the NPC can use
- Build a valid mainland room with walls, flooring, door, light and bed.
- Assign the rescued Blacksmith to that room using the game's room/bed assignment.
- Move away from both the NPC and the destination room. In co-op, have the other players leave those areas too.
- Give the teleport timer an opportunity to run, then return and look for the NPC in the assigned room.
Use the dated distance and timer carefully
The developer's September 21 follow-up reports around 30 seconds between attempts and no teleport within 22 tiles of either endpoint. A river can make the NPC look far away while still leaving you within that tile distance. Standing in the new bedroom to watch for the arrival can also prevent the described teleport.
The original player still had trouble and considered moving the base farther away. The thread supports trying the conditions; it does not guarantee every later save will recover on the first interval.
If the NPC remains stranded
The developer suggests unassigning and reassigning, or assigning a new room. Use a room that passes the validity check, leave both areas again and compare the result. For an already recruited NPC lost after a move/reload, use the separate recovery guide and the later v0.1.0.2 old-save note.
A bridge unlock is not the first requirement
The same answer describes water crossing as a later progression option. The Pontoon recipe comes from a Merchant discovery gift, so searching for that unlock is a different task. The room-teleport branch is useful before you have the bridge, and it avoids treating an NPC's physical walking route as the only way home.
