How to Save in Delverium: Quit World, Autosave and Steam Cloud
Use Quit World from the pause menu to leave the session and save, as explained by the developer on May 20, 2025. The game also autosaves while playing, but that answer gives no fixed interval. Steam Cloud sync is separate from the in-game save operation; a manual backup is a copy of your character and world files after closing the game.
Developer save answers from May 20–21, 2025; Steam Cloud listed on the current store. No measured autosave interval or personal recovery test.
Save by leaving the world normally
- Finish your immediate task and open the pause menu.
- Use Quit World, the action named in the developer's May 20, 2025 answer. That answer says the game saves automatically when you leave through this menu.
- After leaving, close the game normally if you are finished. Let Steam complete any pending cloud synchronisation before using another device.
The developer suggested renaming the button to Save & Exit, but a suggestion in that answer is not evidence that the rename shipped. Use the session-exit action in your build; do not look for an invented F5 quick-save binding.
Autosave is not a documented countdown
The same developer reply says the game also autosaves periodically during play. It does not publish an exact interval, an autosave icon or a guarantee that the last action survives a crash. Leave the world normally when you want to finish a session rather than treating a forced process close as a save command.
Steam Cloud and local backups do different jobs
| Mechanism | What it is for | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Save on Quit World | Write the session's game state when leaving normally. | A manually named quick-save slot. |
| Periodic autosave | Save during play as described by the developer. | A verified interval or zero-loss crash recovery. |
| Steam Cloud | Synchronise supported save data through Steam. | That a pending upload has already completed on another PC. |
| Separate file backup | Keep a dated copy outside the live save folder. | An in-game rewind button or proof of a successful restore. |
Can I create extra manual save slots?
The May 21 developer answer says extra manual save/load points were not planned at that time. Separate character and world saves already existed, which is different from duplicating a checkpoint through a quick-save menu. This is the dated feature answer, not a promise that future builds cannot change it.
For a file backup, exit the game and copy the relevant Player and World data to a separately named folder using the save-location guide. Keeping only a character copy does not also preserve buildings in the world.
Check a save before depending on it
After a normal exit, load the intended character and world again and confirm a recent, recognisable change. This is a practical verification step, not a test performed by this site. If a save appears missing, check the chosen character/world and Steam's sync state before replacing files. Record the game build, exit method and any error when asking for support.
If you want to keep a character while exploring a second world, use the character-selection route; that task does not require overwriting the original world file.
